Black-OWNED TARGET PARTNERS

Why Support These Businesses Directly?

List Updated 2/1/2025

2/7/2025: As of February 1, 2025, we have joined the Target Boycott 100%. 10 Toes Down.

As we celebrate the incredible contributions of Black-owned and founded brands, it’s crucial to address the broader context in which these businesses operate. Recently, Target announced plans to wind down its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives by the end of this year. This decision reflects a troubling trend of corporations prioritizing profit and appeasement over moral responsibility and equity. Capitulating to external pressures from a growing oligarchic, fascist, and racist movement, Target’s actions fail to align with the values of progress, inclusion, and support for marginalized communities.

While these businesses continue to sell their products through Target, we encourage you to support them directly whenever possible. Shopping directly allows you to bypass the middleman, ensuring more of your money goes to the businesses themselves. Supporting small businesses directly is a meaningful way to show solidarity with their missions and values while reducing reliance on corporations that fail to maintain ethical standards.

At the same time, it is important to acknowledge the caution expressed by leaders like Tabitha Brown, who have highlighted that boycotting Target could unintentionally harm the very Black-owned businesses we aim to uplift. Many of these brands rely on partnerships with Target to reach a broader audience and grow their businesses. A drastic drop in Target sales could jeopardize these partnerships, reducing visibility and access for minority-owned brands. For this reason, we are treating this situation with care, encouraging direct support of Black-owned brands whenever feasible, while recognizing that some may still choose to shop through Target to maintain their presence and success in mainstream retail spaces. By making thoughtful, intentional choices about where and how we spend our money, we can both empower Black-owned (as well as blue-aligned, woman-owned, brown-owned, LGBT-owned, etc) businesses and hold corporations accountable for their actions. Whether or not a collective boycott of Target occurs, let’s focus on building a future where progress and equity are foundational—not optional.

Please note, many of these brands may have products that exclusively sold in Target stores.
